Time to take some pictures?
Wednesday 03 December 2008 at 3:36 pm. Used tags: blog, direction, photography, websiteIt sounds like an obvious thing to do as a photographer, although something I've found increasingly difficult to do since tackling some life-changing bereavements in the fall of 2005.
My initial reaction to what seemed like loss of photographic ambition and focus was to surround myself with an ever more impressive working environment and expensive gear to go with it. Unknown to me then had been that it was not the lack of focus or ambition that had stifled my output, but a mere loss of confidence to enjoy something for which I held such passion and importance in the fear it might abandon me without return.
Three years of patience and retrospection has now brought me to a point were I feel confident enough to take a chance, enjoy photography, and relish the results with anticipation and excitement. With this I must accept the most difficult (for me) lesson of all - to tackle disappointment with objectiveness and pragmatism.
Haven't we heard this before?
For those who have followed this blog since it's inception in February 2008 may take this entry as more evidence of failed commitment in moving forward my intentions and ambition. In many regards this has undoubtedly been true, sometimes occupying myself with tasks of little importance or relevance simply to excuse me from taking that final and inevitable leap of faith.
Those who follow my twitter ramblings will know I've most recently been pushing myself with initiatives such as returning to film, submitting work for critique, and most recently framing shots for display. However, it's now time for pictures.
When?
With Leica M6 in-hand I intend to start a week of shooting next Monday, producing at least one roll per day, and posting the results on this blog in the coming weeks. Those that I feel merit a larger stage will be presented on a newly developed, artistically focused, main website.
Promise?
This time no 'playing at' or 'excuses', just an impassioned eye :)

I look forward to the results.
