Open Studio Weekend - 28/06/09

Sunday Shoot - MaddieOn Sunday we had one of our open studio weekends at our home/studio. Designed for friends and acquittances to enjoy beer + chilli whilst I use them as muses for my personal photographic projects, this time I decided to do something a little different!

Collaborative

Knowing many fantastic photographers who also happen to be good friends I decided it might be nice to invite some of them for a collaborative shooting day, roping in some models and a make-up artist on a TF* basis. Of course the usually culinary feast would be laid on and it would give all a fun day out.

Snapping at the heels of this suggestion Carlo, Fabiana, and Laura all confirmed their interest. Between us we narrowed down a selection of models and decided on a theme for the day - "Farm". Wonderfully make-up artist Vicky Bond and budding assistant Annalie Kaufman also agreed to attend.

Models.. Models.. Models..

Despite doubts expressed by Carlo I elected only to invite 3 models - BIG MISTAKE! As is often the case with aspiring models and TF* shoots (especially on a weekend) only one decided to show. However the one that did not only arrived early, but was absolutely fantastic (thanks Maddie)!

With this situation we did however have a photographer-to-model ratio issue, and with my lovely wife Caroline busy with the cuisine we had no choice but to forge ahead. In an effort not to put too much pressure on Maddie, we joined forces and after a quick tour of the neighboring countryside agreed on our locations and began shooting.

How'd it go?

Given the severe shortage of models and searing heat it went without a hitch. Never before had I worked with photographers other than myself on an organised shoot, the ability to bounce around ideas and knowledge was just inspiring.

As usual I spent too much time talking (and burning my head) but did manage to fire off some shots and experimented with some on-location flash ideas. You can see some of the resulting images in my Flickr photostream here

Finally..

I have to give a massive thanks to the guys for coming round and making such a special day, not only did they bring themselves but also strong Italian coffee and chocolate muffins! Yum yum ;o)

Little Me

An enthusiastic and passionate semi-professional photographer for many years I took the decision in 2008 to side step my successful career as a Solutions Architect and devote my time to photography.

This blog is a catalog of my trials and tribulations on that journey.
